The Special Tree Protection Regulation came into effect on September 11, 2020.  It requires WL licence holders to identify, protect and report special trees and to protect the surrounding supporting trees.  The regulation describes special trees; i.e. species, location and diameter at breast height), includes provisions for protection, exemptions, exceptions and reporting.

A contravention of section 3 (2) of the Special Tree Protection Regulation; i.e. failure to ensure specified trees are not cut, damaged or destroyed and supporting trees are not felled, topped or destroyed Is subject to a fine of up to $100 000.
