This report, developed by the Association of Peace River Woodlots, presents findings from long-term trials investigating mixedwood management in the Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, and Fort Nelson Timber Supply Areas. With unique forest compositions and a high proportion of broadleaf species, these Northeast BC woodlots offer valuable insights into sustainable management practices. The report examines the economic, biological, and climate-related implications of maintaining mixed species stands—challenging conventional approaches to conifer-dominated reforestation. It offers early evidence that mixedwoods may enhance yield, carbon storage, and stand resilience, with lessons that may benefit woodlot licensees province-wide.
