This report summarizes the results of a 2021 silviculture practices survey conducted with woodlot licensees on Vancouver Island. With responses from 40 woodlots across the CWHxm and CWHvm biogeoclimatic zones, and follow-up site visits to half of them, the report offers a valuable snapshot of current forest management strategies. It highlights the adaptive and diverse approaches licensees use to meet their unique challenges—from regenerating aging stands to managing wildlife impacts and navigating evolving government policies. The findings underscore the innovation, diligence, and commitment of woodlot owners to responsible, productive, and resilient forestry—while pointing to opportunities for increased collaboration, knowledge sharing, and enhanced silviculture supported by funding and outreach.
